Before any machine work is done the rod is media blasted to remove all rust and dirt. Once cleaned, the rod goes through a magnetic particle inspection to make sure that it is not cracked.
Then the old bushing is pressed out of the rod and the new is pressed in. The caps are wire brushed to remove any burrs or dirt in the radius area. The cap and rod are then ground, removing around .001″ to .003″. This makes the big end smaller and out of round.
The connecting rod is then honed back out to factory dimensions. We then bore the pin bushing out to factory specs. The pin boring machine can be offset to compensate for the amount removed from the cap and rod in the previous steps. This will ensure that your rods center to center distance remains the same.
